Transition dates & info

Transition Dates for School Starters in September 2022!

We have been carefully considering how we can most successfully transition your children into school this September. Parents of School Starters will all receive a transition letter at the end of the Spring Term and then a School Starter Pack.

In June and July, we will be opening our doors to September School Starters during our Stay and Play sessions! These will be very informal and informative, giving you and your child a chance to get a feel for learning in Aire Class.

Stay and Play Sessions this Summer Term

All children are invited to five stay and play sessions after school in the classroom and garden. These are by no means compulsory but we do encourage you to bring your child to as many as possible to ensure a smooth transition into ‘big school’ in September! We will make sure that we have time with each child to show them around the classroom, find their lockers, the toilets and so on. We can also answer any questions that you may have. The sixth session will be during school hours.

These Stay and Play sessions will run from 3:30 to 4:30 on Wednesdays on the following dates:

Wednesday 15th June

Wednesday 22nd June

Wednesday 29th June

Wednesday 6th July

Wednesday 13th July

On Wednesday 20th July, the children are invited into school from 1:30-3 pm.

Transition in September

The Autumn term begins on Tuesday 6th September for all children at Sennen School. Reception children will start in week 1 with a reduced timetable to ease their transition into ‘big school’.

Tuesday 6th September 9 am to 12 noon.

Wednesday 7th September 9 am to 12 noon.

Thursday 8th September 9 am to 1 pm. This will be the children’s first experience of lunch at school.

Friday 9th September 9 am to 1 pm.

We know that all children are different and that some children will settle more quickly than others. We very much support the ‘Unique Child’ principle of the Early Years Foundation Stage and will talk to you individually if we feel your child may benefit from a slightly longer transition. Similarly, if you feel your child is struggling, please come and talk to us and we will help to come up with a plan to extend their transition.
